Syncroblog: ultraVT

How do you describe to a stranger ultraVT?

ultraVT is basically a bunch of kids that hangout in the woods around Blacksburg, Virginia. Most of the time spent is spent running, but that isn’t to say they don’t also enjoy camping and just hanging out together. As a team we travel to different races, mainly in the mid-atlantic region, to do what we all love, RUN! Image

When did you get involved with ultraVT?

Last fall Danny and I started running together quite a bit at Pandapas, a local trail system, and shortly thereafter Rudy encouraged us to come out to some of the ultraVT group runs. I got hooked on running again after almost a two year hiatus from track in high school because of the guys I was running with and the places it would take us. Its hard not to fall in love with running all over again when you get to see views like that from the top of Craig’s Creek.

How do you see yourself within ultraVT?

Currently I’d say I’m just your average team member, I show up to group run occasionally and spend a lot of days running with different members of the team. I’d like to get more involved and have talked to Rudy about maybe helping to try and get more sponsors for the team, hopefully learning how to approach people for donations like I did last summer will help out.

What’s your favorite aspect of ultraVT?

I think the camaraderie is by far the best aspect of ultraVT. There is never a dull moment when running or away for the weekend with ultraVT. Whether we are hanging out the night before a race having sleeping bag races or rooting each other on when ever we pass one another during a race, there is never a time you don’t sense a positive spirit in the air.

What’s your favorite trail run in the blacksburg vicinity?

Hands down Craig’s Creek. Nothing beats a tough 2 mile climb to start your run, this is also home to one of the nicest stretches of single track I’ve encountered.

Any secrets you’d like to share?

Good beer makes you faster, or at least I’d like to think so. Drink enough Hopslam and you’ll run as fast as Rudy.

Favorite post-race meal?

Probably the hardest question on here to answer. I love food. But post race anything other than PB&J or Shot Bloks will do the trick.

Who does your nails?

Well the nails are a product of lots of running and one unfortunate gene, thanks for Morton’s Toe mom and dad.
